The WHO constitution states: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
That being said, no person can be considered truly healthy unless their mental health is accounted for.
LAMSA is a youth-led initiative with the aim of spreading mental health awareness and breaking the stigma around it. The goals of LAMSA line up with the ones Aid Lebanon has formed. In fact, Aid Lebanon formed a sub-part to the NGO that is dedicated to mental health under the name of Helping Hearts.
The Lebanese pride themselves with their resilience and ability to bounce back amidst their troubles. This has often created a toxic mentality when it comes to being vulnerable and opening up to others. As stated in the Helping Hearts segment on Aid Lebanon’s webpage: “The mental health treatment gap has exceeded 90% in Lebanon due to high levels of stigma, limited resources, and limited mental healthcare facilities.” These factors have left the citizens helpless and alone.
By our partnership with LAMSA, we really hope we can make a difference among the struggling people in Lebanon.
