Breast Cancer: What's New?

“More than 10 million Americans are living with cancer; and they demonstrate the ever-increasing possibility of living beyond cancer”, American musician and breast cancer survivor Sheryl Crow once said. Yet breast cancer remains a global fight shared by millions of survivors around the world. In fact, breast cancer was the most common cancer in women worldwide according to the World Cancer Research Fund International, with huge research advances being achieved to prevent, detect, and treat breast cancer.

In light of all of the above, Aid Lebanon in collaboration with LAU Medical Center is proudly organizing a Breast Cancer Symposium to share the latest advances in breast cancer research.

Titled “Breast Cancer: What's New?”, the symposium will be moderated by Public Relations Executive Alissa Chebat, Chief Operating Officer Philippe Saad, and Public Relations Officer Michel Boustany . The event will include experts from Yale, AUB, LAU, along with our President and Chief Executive Officer namely:

-Dr. Sola Aoun Bahous MD, PHD, MHPE. Professor Department of Internal Medicine/ Division of Nephrology.Dean of the LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine

-Mr. Nehme Gerges Melhem CEO, Entrepreneur. Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aid Lebanon.

-Dr. Eman Sbaity MD, FEBS, MSc. Assistant Professor of Surgery American University of Beirut Medical Center

Besides tackling the latest advances in breast cancer research in the country, the speakers will present internationally available data on breast cancer and address the importance of screening modalities for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

This hybrid event represents the launch of a wider breast cancer campaign in Lebanon starting during Breast Cancer Awareness Month but definitely not ending with it. After multiple public health meetings at the organization, Aid Lebanon found a pressing need in not only increasing awareness on breast cancer for its proven effectiveness in improving outcomes for patients, but to push for exchange of ideas at the academic and clinical levels between experts and health professionals across both local and international medical centers, especially in a country like Lebanon where breast cancer incidence rates are among the highest regionally.

The symposium is part of Aid Lebanon’s bigger mission to encourage research output in the country and provide the space to increase medically oriented discussions among health professionals, students, and other stakeholders. It also aims to strengthen collaborations between Lebanon and the US at the academic and clinical levels, paving the way to introduce new technology into the Lebanese healthcare system to improve patient care further and more sustainably in the country.

We extend this invite to all those of who you are interested in attending an event that will truly enrich your knowledge on such a pressing matter that has grown in importance over the decades. Do not miss out on this opportunity to engage with experts in the field of breast cancer and be part of the positive change we aim to see in our communities.
